An elderly lady calls the local hospital.
“Good afternoon, madam,” the receptionist says.
“How can I assist you?”
“Could you please connect me to ward 2A?” the lady requests.
“Certainly, madam,” the receptionist replies, transferring the call.
The phone rings, and a nurse picks up.
“Good afternoon, this is ward 2A, Sister Maguire speaking. How can I help you?”
The elderly lady says,
“I’m calling to check on Mrs. Green. Can you tell me how she’s doing?”
“Of course,” says the nurse.
“Let me check for you.”
After a brief pause, the nurse says,
“Mrs. Green is doing well. She’s made great progress, is back on solid foods, and her vitals are normal. If all goes well, she’ll be discharged on Tuesday. May I ask who’s calling? A friend, a neighbor, or a relative?”
The old lady replies,
“This is Sarah Green in Ward 2A, and nobody tells me anything when I ask!”
“I’ll get my coat…”
