20 pounds means 20 pounds!

Several years ago, I was in a butcher shop close to Christmas time.

All the fresh turkeys were hanging from a rail.

A man was standing, carefully examining the turkeys.

One of the butchers asked,

“Can I help you?”

The man replied,

“Yes, I’m looking for a 20-pound turkey.”

The butcher walked over, inspected the turkeys, and pulled down a large bird.

He placed it on the scales and said,

“This one is 20 pounds 6 ounces. That’ll be £35.50.”

“No,” said the man. “I want a 20-pound turkey.”

The butcher, a bit puzzled, said,

“I think this one is as close as we can get to 20 pounds.”

But the man insisted,

“No, I want a 20-pound turkey,” and pulled out some banknotes totaling £20.

Turns out, the weight he was looking for was more about his wallet than the turkey!
